Mediators, Family Lawyers & Estate Planning

Mediation is a process where a neutral third party (like Switzerland), known as a mediator, assists the parties in identifying and assessing options and negotiating an agreement to resolve their dispute in a confidential setting.
Mediation is an alternative to arbitration (which is when a third party determines something for you) or a decision made by a Judge in a Court.
It is a calm, though at times tiring, process where you, your lawyer, and your mediator talk through ways to negotiate everyone's ideas on how to resolve a dispute - it can be emotional and cathartic, it can be surprising and exciting, it can go for a short period of time (a few hours) or a long period of time (a day or more), and it could change the course of your life or at least the next few years of it.
We tailor mediation to you - Parenting &/or Property: you may need two mediators (tandem mediation), you may need one mediator, or you may want to meet the mediator before your big day; all of these options are available to you, and we screen this when you book mediation with us.
Our Mediators have extensive experience not only in mediation but in every facet of society – we are proud to host a former Minister of Multi-Cultural Affairs, a former Assistant Police Commissioner, a former Judicial Registrar of the FCFCOA, and lawyers and professionals with lived experience in family law, estate litigation as well as business and commercial disputes.
Our mediators include Family Dispute Resolution practitioners, a Doyles Guide-listed leading mediator, solicitors with decades of experience, as well as lawyers with experience as Independent Children’s Lawyers who have worked at the FCFCOA, the Legislative Council of NSW, the NSW Police Force, Legal Aid NSW, and law firms of all sizes.
We use an online booking system for our mediations and intakes for FDRP (60i Certificates). If you are self-represented or representing your client, our available dates can be viewed by clicking the button below. We will guide you through the rest of the process.

Being prepared or adequately supported when it comes to Estate Planning, Wills & Family Law (including binding financial agreements (BFAs/prenups), divorce and disputes) ensures your interests are protected, assets are divided equitably, and the law and its deadlines are adhered to; therefore, not risking that important steps are missed and potentially impacting your rights.
Agreements that seemed fair across the table in the past might have significant and expensive consequences later. Or that time you decided to DIY your hard work as a young professional and draft your own Will, leaving everything to your business partner, all for a disgruntled sibling with a gambling addiction, whom you haven't spoken to in 20 years, swooping in trying their piece at your estate...Did you know that in NSW in particular, having a Will does not necessarily mean that every asset will be distributed according to the Will? Expert advice is necessary.
Traditional Marriages, De Facto Relationships, Same-Sex Relationships, Spousal Maintenance, Parenting & Child Custody, Property & Asset Settlement are all at risk if you are not prepared or supported by a subject matter expert. At Myra Aris & Co, we provide individual and strategically calibrated advice, regardless of your situation, net worth, or demographic, and we have experience with all of it, inside and outside of Court.
